Reasons and Excuses

Image
So. . . there are reasons that my last post was months ago, but there are no real excuses.  I seem to find the time to do other things that I have 'no time for'.  I think that the reasons, while valid, still are only excuses for a deeper lack of motivation, inspiration perhaps, or priority.  Yes I believe that is it.  I am motivated, and WANT to write, I want to assist others with the tools and ah-ha moments that come so swiftly and often, and yet I don't 'get to it'.  I definitely have constant ideas swirling around, a list of 'posts to write', so that isn't it either, but priority might just be it.  Of late, I've discovered a new sense of transparency.  A sort of sense of willingness to be more open with my flaws and needs and ideas and disquiet.  Here are some of my 'reasons' and understand that they are in no particular order other than what pops into my head first. A flood that left us without a kitchen for five months (still not...

It Is What It Is

Image
It Is What It Is Or is it? Life is hard. Making money is hard. Relationships don’t work. It is too easy to quit. It is what it is. I don’t live in a mansion, but I love my home. I’m   not a dance teacher with my own studio, but I love my voice students.  I’m not a size four, but I’m enjoying being a six. It is what it is.  Anything can be made to be worse than it is, or better than it is, just by where you choose to focus. Yes, something may be a certain way, but are there no other choices, Really?   Can one thing be shifted, even a little?   For me, sometimes the phrase is a sigh.   It is my crutch, something I lean on so that I don’t have to look deeper and fix what is broken. Then other times it is a support, a soft place to land when I consider what my choices are, and what they are NOT.   Sometimes just the ‘knowing what you can change, and what you can not’ is a warm blanket allowing me to relea...

What’s in My Toolbox?

Image
Ten Specific Tools to assist in positive mood, motivational and connection changes. Measuring Tape:   a Your ABC’s.   Each of us have things that go wrong in life.   We are affected by Adversary.   What we Believe about the cause, will form our Consequences.   For three days (or until you have five examples) write down A- Your adversarial event.   B – Your belief about why the event occurred and C – The Consequence for you because of the event.   For example:    A – You called your friend, and left a message, but they didn’t return your call.   B – “They didn’t call me back because. . .   (They don’t really care about me, they were out of town, I’m not a very good friend, so of course they don’t want to talk to me. . . whatever) C – I felt ______ ( They didn’t call because I’m not a good friend, so I felt depressed and didn’t bother calling anyone else) and so I ____________.           ...

- Secondary Gain -

Image
What are you getting from your problem that invites it to remain? “I hate being fat!  I feel lumpy and lethargic and uncomfortable!  Why do I keep eating what I know will make me “fatter?”  I can’t stand living in this mess!  I hate stepping over piles, not being able to find what I want when I want it, and I’m tired of looking at it all!”  But I don’t change.  Why?  Am I lazy?  Not at all.  I get lots done in other areas.  I am perfectly able and confident in many other areas of my life, but why do these trip me up?  (Pun intended?) I’ve learned that there are reasons for everything.  Even the ‘bad’ things that we are ‘stuck’ in, are serving us in some way.  Otherwise we would never continue in their practice.  For instance: I remember hearing a client talk about their issues with weight.  He spoke about the comfort that he gained when he sat down with a huge meal like his mother used to make him ....

Will Power Doesn't Last Long

Image
Frankly, neither does ‘won’t’ power. Let’s face it. Strong-arm muscling goals gets us mostly just frustrated, down on ourselves and shoved into helplessness. Ever tried to ‘push a river’? Going against the natural flow of things makes life rougher, not easier. Struggle wasn’t meant for an every-day lifestyle. So, how do we improve? How do we get out of bad habits and into good ones? The trouble is, bad habits are EASY to start, and HARD to break. Good habits are HARD to start and EASY to break. I know, not fair! But it is what it is. You have spent years learning how to do things a certain way. Think a certain way, act and respond a certain way. You have all these wonderful desires, and want to do things a NEW way, so you sit down, make some ‘goals’ and then expect change to happen quickly! Guess what. . . it doesn’t. You usually fail, then berate yourself, give up, become depressed and decide it wasn’t possible anyway. What if you are just going about it in the wrong way? A riv...

Order and Chaos

Image
Notice I did not say, Order OR Chaos. It is the “and” that makes all the difference. Have you noticed a living room on the day after Christmas? If there are little children involved, certainly there will be chaos. Paper, ribbons, tape, bows, boxes, toys (probably some already broken) and even plates, glasses, contents of stockings, camera paraphernalia and all sorts of decorations (one or two broken or tumbled from its graceful pre-Christmas perch no doubt) strewn about. Can we say cyclone? My daughter calls it a ‘happy mess’ and so it is, filled with memories, love, service and a lot of joy. Still, it is chaos, and it needs to be put back in order before the next week passes. Sometimes our lives are like that aren’t they? Chaotic, but joyful, crazy and messy and topsy-turvy--but all good stuff. Then there are times (sometimes too long of a span) of difficult chaos. Broken dreams, unexpected consequences, Loss, failure, financial ruins and all sorts of craziness that makes u...

Yodaish Wisdom

Image
"So sure are you.  With you it is always, 'I can not.'"  Do you have little voices in your head too?  Not the ones that mean you are crazy, (at least not entirely so) but the ones coming from your best or worst selves, telling what 'reality' is; What you can not have, what you can not do, what you can not be?  What if you could? What if you didn't listen to the worst part of you, and only listened to the Yodaish wisdom of the best part of you?  Could you change how you feel?  Your life?  How you look at your future? Your past?    I learned about a little game.  It is playful and fun and just makes you feel good.  It is from Abraham-hicks.com and is called the 'What if' game.  (Or Wouldn't it be great if. . . ) Basically, you merely take where you are, and shift your focus to another true, but more 'feel good' place of possibilities.   For instance.  My husband wants a truck.  We aren't currently in a po...
