You will never FIND time for anything - You have to MAKE time.
If you are anything at all like me, time is a problem. It moves too fast! It evaporates too quickly. It insists on changing your mind, your body, your circumstances. It also heals, and holds anticipation, and refuses to budge when you REALLY want it to. Time is its own master, or . . .is it?
I've heard the idioms,
Common Time Idioms
- Time flies — Time seems to pass very quickly. (Example: "Time flies when you are having a great time.")
- In the nick of time — Doing something just before it is too late or right at the last possible moment. (Example: "We arrived at the station in the nick of time.")
- Beat the clock — To finish a task or succeed before time runs out or a deadline passes. (Example: "She rushed to beat the clock before the office closed.")
- Kill time — To do something aimless or keep yourself busy while waiting for something else to happen. (Example: "We had to kill time at the airport for three hours.")
- Time is money — Time is a valuable resource that should not be wasted. (Example: "Please get to the point; time is money.")
- Better late than never — Doing something late is still better than not doing it at all. (Example: "You finally sent the report? Well, better late than never.")
- Bide your time — To wait patiently for a good opportunity. (Example: "He is biding his time until a promotion opens up.")
- Once in a blue moon — An event that happens very rarely. (Example: "I only eat fast food once in a blue moon.")
- Around the clock — Working or happening continuously for 24 hours without stopping.
(from Google, You're welcome) Ai CAN be useful! oh, Photo by ai as well, but perfect for my needs here.)
I was going to just list the ones I remembered, but I loved the list, so I shared it. Anyway. . . As I was saying, time is fickle, and stubborn. However, we are in charge of how WE spend it. Yes, as a transactional idea. We choose what we'll do with portions of our 24 hours. If I truly wish to have time to do something other than what is already scheduled, I CAN edit it. I can call off events, meetings, dates, whatever. Or, perhaps just choose not to participate. I learned this when my father died.
Up to that point, -I was only 34- I felt like I was trapped, and I HAD to do all 'the things'. But then suddenly, and with little warning, everything stopped for my family. Nothing else mattered. Yes, the world still revolved -I'm still irked at that betrayal- and yet I stopped. I mourned. I made room for grief and took care of others who were also touched.
Yes, I understand responsibilities, and integrity, and duty. I also know that there are weights to time, and they can become unbalanced, or forced, or even rearranged. The bottom line is, if you REALLY want time to be filled with something other than it is, there may be sacrifice, stretching, re-thinking and even some persuasion involved.
Write down your barriers. Then give them an extra look. What does your inner voice cry out for? Will you beckon?
Making time (opening up a space) is the only way to find your purpose. There is no hat to pull out a few extra hours from. SO when we say, "I just don't have the time to. . . . . . . . (fill in your lament) . . . . . . " What we are really saying is, "That is not more important than what is already filling the space."
So, what will you move around today, to fill with something delightful?
You will never FIND time for anything - You have to MAKE time.
